诗巫书艺协会的缘起可溯源自一九九一年一次文化会议结束后，聚在一起的书画界朋友聊起诗巫的文化艺术团体很多，就是少了一个美术书法团体，实是美中不足。其实一批热心书艺的朋友早就有筹组一个团体的意愿，所以当在场的房年胜先生告知若申请加入马来西亚书艺协会为会员，就不难在诗巫设立协会，大家一致认同，房年胜，王振东等诸先生旋即分头进行，热心招收会员。
